Giugno è uno dei mesi più belli per visitare Malta. Le temperature sono calde ma non troppo, perfette per godersi il sole e la spiaggia.
THESE ARE THE GENERAL RENTAL REQUIREMENTS OF FREEWAYS AUTO RENTAL.
A. Rental Rates
Daily Rental rates are based on a 24 hour “rental day” starting at the time of rental. The minimum charge is one day. The client will be charged for each hour and/or any part of an hour in excess of a car hire per day the client keeps the vehicle, until the vehicle is returned, up to the applicable daily rate. A Return Charge Fee of €25 will apply if you return 24 hours or more prior to your reserved return date and time. If you return 24 hours or more after your scheduled return date and time, a Return Change Fee of €15.99 per day will apply (€79.95 max.), in addition to any other rental charges. If the client fails to comply with the conditions applicable to the rate, including any geographic driving restrictions, a surcharge or other rates may apply.
B. Driving Age
The minimum age to hire a car in Malta is of 21 years of age.
C. Authorized Drivers
Freeways Auto Rentals reserve the right to authorize only one driver to drive the hired car. An authorized driver is the client and any additional person who appears at the time of rental, and signs the rental agreement. All authorized drivers must satisfy our age requirements, have a valid driver’s license, provide a physical street resident address, a major credit card in their own name. No other persons are authorized to drive the vehicle unless otherwise stated in writing.
D. Additional Authorized Drivers and Fees
All additional authorized drivers are required to qualify to drive the vehicle. To qualify, Freeways Auto Rentals requires all additional drivers, including spouses, to satisfy our minimum age requirements, have a valid driver’s license, and pay an additional driver fee, unless otherwise stated in writing. Our daily rate is of €5.00 per day
The additional driver may also be subject to a driver record check and an underage driver’s fee due to insurace purposes.
E. Underage Driver’s Fee
An authorized driver 21 to 24 years of age will be charged a €5.00 per day as Underage Driver’s Fee because of such driver’s age and in addition to the additional driver fee.
F. Credit Qualifications/Requirements
To qualify to hire a car from Freeways Auto Rentals, the client must present at the time of rental a current driver’s license and valid major credit card or debit card (see Debit Card Usage below) in the client’s own name with available credit. At the time of rental, an authorization hold will be secured on the credit/debit card provided, to cover the estimated car hire charges and any additional charges that may be incurred. The funds held will not be available for your personal use.

G. Using Debit Cards to Qualify for a Car hire in Malta
Debit cards issued under a VISA or MasterCard logo which draw funds directly from a cardholder’s linked bank account may be used qualify for hiring a car in Malta.
Debit cards are accepted to qualify for a rental, in most cases, we will perform a credit check for debit card customers to determine credit worthiness at the time of rental. The customer must meet the minimum criteria to rent using a debit card. The customer presenting the debit card must also present one (1) valid form of identification. In addition, the acceptance of such debit cards is contingent upon the debit cards having available funds to cover the estimated charges plus an authorization of up to €200.00 given certain conditions that will be outlined at time of rental. These funds will not be available for your personal use during the rental period and afterwards upto 3 weeks.
When a debit card is accepted as form of payment, at the start of the car hire period, two (2) forms of identification must be presented.
A valid Driver’s License
One (1) of the following forms:
Government issued ID, in the same name as the driver’s license and debit card
Using Debit Cards to Pay for a Rental
Both debit cards and credit cards may be used as a form of payment when a customer returns the vehicle.
The client must refill the gas tank of the vehicle within a 1 KM radius of the car hire return facility and present a fuel receipt to avoid a refueling charge unless the client chooses the prepaid fuel option. If the client chooses the prepaid fuel option, he will pay a specified charge as set forth in the rental agreement and have no obligation to return the vehicle with a full tank of fuel. In the event the client fails to provide a receipt for a trip under 2KM , they will be charged a service and fueling convenience fee of €13.99. If the client does not choose the prepaid fuel option, and does not return the vehicle with a full tank of gas for rentals over 2KM, the client will be required to pay a fuel charge to compensate Freeways Auto Rentals for the cost and service of refueling the vehicle. The fuel charge is based on the estimated number of gallons needed to refill the tank multiplied by the rate per gallon charge specified by the local rates. Freeways Auto Rentals may use different methods of estimating the number of gallons needed to refill the tank and these methods of estimation necessarily rely on human judgment. Usually the estimate is made according to the number of gallons needed to refill the gas tank either (1) by reading the fuel gauge to estimate the approximate amount of fuel needed to refill the tank (for example, one-half tank) and multiplying that number by the manufacturer’s specified fuel tank capacity, or (2) if the client did not purchase any fuel during the rental, by reading the odometer to determine the amount of miles driven during the rental and dividing that number by the vehicle’s estimated fuel efficiency (miles per gallon) based on the manufacturer’s fuel efficiency specifications.
Additional Authorized Drivers
If a traveling companion shall serve as the driver during the rental, please advise us prior to the time of rental.
The Client or any additional authorized driver must present at the time of rental:
(1) a valid driver’s license issued by their country of residence of the client which is valid for the entire car hiring period.
(2) a temporary driver’s license, valid for the entire rental period
(3) a traffic citation issued as a temporary license, valid for the entire rental period
*If the foreign issued driver’s license is from a country where “permanent” or “non-expiring” driver’s licenses are issued, the client and any additional drivers will also be required to show their passport, visa or other documentation at the beginning of the car hire period authorizing the renter or driver to be present in Malta and Gozo at the time of rental.
1. Child Safety Seats
For an additional charge, infant, toddler, and child/ youth safety seats are available from Freeways Auto Rentals.
2. Global Positioning System (GPS)
Freeways Auto Rentals offer GPS navigators for use the during the rental for an additional daily charge. The small, dashboard-mounted device is programmed for multiple languages and contains mapping details of Malta and Gozo with points of interest, including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs and tourist attractions.
The client may incur one or more of the following charges and fees:
(i) an airport concession recovery fee or off-airport access fee;
(ii) when visiting any locality which has a radar surveillance system (CVA);
Lost and Found
Freeways Auto Rental will not uphold responsibility for any personal belongings left in the vehicle or within the location premises.
LIABILITY, INSURANCE AND OPTIONAL PROTECTION PACKAGE
Loss or Damage to Freeways Auto Rentals vehicle
The client and any additional drivers are absolutely liable for any loss or damage to the rental vehicle, even if someone else caused it or the cause is unknown, whether due to theft, fire, hail, flood, collision, vandalism, or any other cause, subject to limitations imposed by the law where the vehicle is rented. This liability will not exceed the full value of the vehicle, plus:
1. Actual towing and storage charges;
2. Loss of use;
3. Diminution in value, regardless of whether the vehicle is repaired or not;
4. All rental charges through the date you report the incident if not returnable or the return date, whichever is later;
5. Any out-of-pocket expenses incurred by us as a result of the loss or damage to the vehicle;
6. A reasonable administrative fee; and
7. Pro-rata license plate fees, all as allowed by law.
Third Party Liability Claims
Unless otherwise required by applicable law, a renter and/or any additional authorized driver (and the respective insurance company of each) is primarily responsible for all third party claims of personal injury, including death, and property damage caused or arising from the use and operation of the vehicle rented by Freeways Auto Rentals during the said rental.
Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage
Freeways Auto Rentals does not provide uninsured and under-insured motorist coverage.
Freeways Auto Rentals stores only information about you that is necessary to keep you logged in, and do the booking. We promise to never use your information in order to serve you targeted ads, never to sell it or to miss use them in any way.
Information about you that we have are the information that you gave to us while Registering on the website and Booking the website.
Given the nature of our business, we are required to have information about the client, since we need to make sure that the client is capable of operating the vehicle. Also, we need to make sure client is licensed driver, and we need information in order to secure company in a case that the client has an accident or makes damage to the vehicle in any other way.
In order to make sure that website functions as expected and give you the best possible experience while using it, we use your browser data in the following way:
Session – In order for the website to recognize a client, we store your IP address from which you logged in, and a web cookie is stored on your internet browser, in order to make your browsing session reliable and safe.
Authentification – in order to make sure that you authenticate correctly and stay logged in, we use Authentification web cookie.
CAPTCHA – We use Google Captcha service to confirm you’re a real person when registering onto the website. The IP address and Captcha answer are sent to Google.
Privacy – In order to process information requests, information about the user must be collected and logged for the purposes of retaining an audit log. The request system is based on an individual’s email address which will be used to link the request to an existing site user if able.

All car hire charges are paid in Euros or Sterling Pound equivalent to the exchange rate on the day. Payment can also be processed by credit/debit card or travelers cheques. All prices include unlimited mileage, fully comprehensive insurance (subject to excess), 24Hrs road assistance and 18% Value Added Tax (V.A.T.)
Our cars are all comprehensive insured against damages resulting from an accident, vandalism, fire and theft. Although the vehicle is insured the client is responsible for an excess of €750-€,1000 in-case of damage. The excess is payable in all circumstances of damage, unless the damage cost is less than the excess amount or if a third party accepts fault and liability and pays for damages.
An optional coverage removes the full excess amount payable in case of a claim for damages, fire and theft (standard conditions apply, that may void the insurance coverage are such as driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs, careless driving, vehicle is not being driven by the client, and client has been refused car insurance or had a policy canceled).
Personal accident insurance is optionally available to insure passengers of the rented car against injuries and medical expenses in case of accident. The maximum premium amount is of €15,000 excess of €116 is applicable.
Charges for any of the damages below will be charged directly to the client, the most important are the following: Antenna, ashtrays, damage to car lock , loss or damage to keys , windshield wipers, glass, mirrors, wheels, tires, spare key and car jack, hubcap, lights, gas cap, warning triangles, damage to the upholstery of the car, extreme dirt in the car, underside damage, damage due to negligence, tyre punctures and burst tyres, fuel errors, damage to child seats and baby seats, flat battery due to electrical devices or car lights being left on while the vehicle is not running or otherwise, The car rental company, in any case, is not obligated in replacing a flat tyre or damages in radio. Car radios/CD players/stereos are not insured against damage or theft unless the facade of the stereo is handed back to the company undamaged. Damage caused by drunk driving or negligent driving will never be excluded from the client’s direct responsibilities.
Any unnoticed accident or damage to the vehicle may be interpreted as negligence. This may result in a charge to the client.
Car deliveries and collections are available to any location in Malta at no extra cost, during normal working hours, from 8.00 hrs to 17.00 hrs. Car deliveries and collections after stated hours are done at an extra cost of €10 each way. A charge of approx €40 each way is applicable for deliveries or collections from the island of Gozo and this includes the car ferry charge. Clients having their cars delivered to their hotels/residence in Gozo will be required to drive our representative back to Mgarr Ferry terminal.
The insurance included in the rates covers up to one driver aged 25-70 years of age. An extra daily charge is applicable to insure each additional driver and these must present their driving license at time of rental.
We offer three types of baby seats for hire (Newborn seats, Child seats and booster seats). These must be ordered in advance when making a reservation and a daily charge per seat is applicable. Clients are advised that baby seats will only be supplied with the car and will not be fitted by our staff members.
All cars are insured for drivers aged between 25 and 70. Drivers aged 21-24 or 71-75 will be required to pay a daily surcharge imposed by our insurers, and the excess reduction options (Super CDW and the FDW) are not available.
Drivers under 25 years must have held a full license for at least 3 years whilst drivers over 70 must present a recently renewed license and a doctor’s certificate stating fitness to drive.
All clients must present a valid credit card at time of rental even if they are paying in cash, as a security against the applicable excess amount and any against any eventual parking contraventions or over-speeding fines.
Non credit card holders will be required to leave a cash deposit equal to the excess amount carried by the car which will only be refunded 3 weeks after termination of rental.
Please note that examples of makes & models used in this website are to aid description and are not guaranteed. We only guarantee the vehicle category and specifications (eg. aircondition, manual, compact size etc…). In case a car within your booked group is not available you will receive a free upgrade.
Any parking tickets, traffic offences, fines or contraventions will automatically be charged to the clients credit card during or after time of rental either by our company or directly by the local enforcement services, such charges will also result in a €15 administration charge payable by the client.
We would like to draw the attention to all clients that even though our vehicle descriptions may include car radios or stereos as features on some cars, we reserve the right in rare and unforeseen circumstances to deliver cars without these extras. This is because sometimes a car is returned with a faulty stereo/CD or we deliver an alternative vehicle from the one booked or we might supply a subcontracted car which might not have a radio Cd or stereo installed. The cost of installing, repairing or replacing these stereos is not built into our rental charges thus we are not under obligation to provide such extras should we be unable to do so..
Whilst we always try to deliver cars exactly at the requested time, we sometimes encounter traffic and other set backs beyond our control so kindly allow a 20 minute margin either way from the time booked. This is only applicable for hotel/address deliveries or if a flight lands ahead of time booked. Our 24 hour roadside assistance is available all over Malta & Gozo. In case of a flat tyre / puncture please note that all cars are provided with a spare wheel. If the client wants assistance it is provided at an extra cost. Clients are informed that tyres and wheels are not covered by the insurance so all puncture repairs are at the clients’sexpense. Tyres and rims damaged during rental are at the client’s expense and must be repaired / replacedforthwith.
Should the client run out of fuel, we can arrange delivery of a few liters of fuel to any location on the island, however the client will have to pay for the fuel supplied plus a delivery charge.
Should you decide to terminate your rental prior the agreed / originally booked date, you will not be entitled to any refund for the remaining period. We may under special circumstances allow a part refund at our discretion, either in cash or as a credit note to be used on future services from our company, but we are however under no obligation to do so.
If a vehicle is returned later than originally booked / agreed we reserve the right to charge a penalty of €50, even if the car is returned late by a couple of hours. Each rental agreement is allowed 1 hour grace period after which a late return could be charged the penalty fee.
The preferential rates advertised on this website are only applicable for internet bookings made in advance, as we are given enough time to allocate our bookings and maximize the use of our cars. We reserve the right to charge different / higher rates for last minute and locally booked rentals besides the possibility that the car of your choice might not be available if you leave your booking for the last minute. Therefore we always recommend booking in advance via our website.
This information is mandatory and required for all airport rentals. We will not be held responsible if your car is not prepared for you when you arrive in Malta should you fail to provide us with your correct flight number and approximate time of arrival.
Customers must contact Freeways Car Hire at the time of the incident and will be required to fill in a police report and an insurance claim form (if applicable) and pay the applicable excess charge. Failure to notify the garage straight away may automatically void your insurance cover making the client liable for all repair costs of the car and third party damages, including loss of use of the vehicle whilst under repairs.
Dependent on the circumstances we reserve the right not to replace the vehicle without a refund for any remaining days of hire.
The insurance company may at its own discretion decline coverage should there be suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, proven reckless driving, if the car was driven by any person other then the insured driver and for any other reason listed on the rental agreement signed on collection of the vehicle.
All vehicles must be returned in the same condition as when rented except for expected wear & tear and dirt. If a car is returned with excessive dirt / stains, special cleaning may be required at a cost, to the client.
A full refund for any deposit paid upon reservation will be given for cancellations received at least 15 days prior to the commencement of the rental period. We however reserve the right to impose a fee or retain the deposit for cancellations received after.
